Many companies around the globe have switched over from conventional office space, introducing working from home measures of late and whilst this more casual environment may be the norm for some, many of us will look at how to navigate this unknown environment…

We’ve put together some tips on how to beat home office howlers…

 1. Create A Dedicated Work Space

If you don’t have a dedicated work space set up already, create one with the space around you!

It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant, most importantly, it needs to be away from common distractions and away from family, who are also at home. Set ground rules with your family to make sure they know that they shouldn’t break your concentration whilst working and you will catch up with them when you have a break.

2. Stick To Your Normal Routine

One of the most basic, yet arguably the most important is setting the tone for the day by getting a shower and dressed as you would do for work. 

Whilst it can be somewhat enticing to work from the comfort of your bed clothes, it also can effect your mind set negatively. This will also avoid the embarrassment of an unscheduled video conference and your colleagues seeing you in your beloved onesie!

3. Don’t Forget To Socialise 

Even when practising social distancing we don’t have to be completely alone, embrace technology and invite a colleague or friend for a virtual coffee!

Isolation and loneliness can soon kick in when working from home, but it can be easily avoided. Don’t be shy to use FaceTime or Skype, hit the power button on the coffee machine and schedule a quick catch up. 

4. Set Objectives For The Day

As you would in the office, set out some clear objectives on what you want to achieve for the days and weeks ahead, with timelines attached to each objective. The novelty of working from home can be overwhelming, with so many distractions. Make sure you stick to your usual working hours, including break times and lunch.
